The Ultra-Complicated Calibre 1150

At the heart of this creation beats Calibre 1150, a new hand-wound movement counting 1,099 components, which brings together 40 functions (among which 22 are complications)*, including a minute repeater, perpetual calendar, split-seconds chronograph and flying tourbillon.

*These numbers may vary depending on sources and interpretation. Under the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FH) standard, the total may reach 60.

Our Grande Sonnerie

In addition to striking the hours, quarter hours and minutes on demand, as a traditional minute repeater would, a Grande Sonnerie automatically chimes the hour and each quarter hour, echoing the rhythm of a bell tower.

Regarded as one of the most intricate and prestigious complications in Haute Horlogerie, the Grande Sonnerie remains rare. At Audemars Piguet, only a handful of specialised watchmakers possess the expertise to assemble and fine-tune this extraordinary mechanism.

These watches are for inspiration only. Their designs cannot be reproduced.

Grande Sonnerie Technology

In Calibre 1000, the gongs are affixed to a 0.6 mm sapphire crystal membrane that acts as a soundboard, enhancing acoustic performance. Meanwhile, the caseback features an extra-thin 'secret' cover with apertures on the side to let air flow through, amplifying the sound even when the watch is worn on the wrist.

Our Grande Complication

To be considered a Grande Complication, a watch must include a minute repeater, a split-seconds chronograph and a perpetual calendar.

Since 1882, Audemars Piguet has upheld the Grande Complication as a symbol of its horological mastery - preserving this ancestral savoir-faire through generations and maintaining its production even during times of crisis.
