UNVEILING AN INNOVATIVE SETTING DEVICE
19 November 2025
Two years after initiating a partnership with the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), Audemars Piguet unveils an intelligent setting device that automatically sets and winds its latest 41 mm Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar wristwatches.
Co-developed with Dubai Future Labs – DFF’s robotics and applied research initiative – this innovation exemplifies how cross-disciplinary collaboration can redefine the boundaries of traditional watchmaking and open new avenues for industry-wide progress.
Presented for the first time during Dubai Watch Week, this initiative reflects Audemars Piguet’s commitment to making complications more intuitive and accessible.
AN AUTOMATED TOOL MERGING ENGINEERING, ROBOTICS AND AI
Perpetual calendars have long been admired for their complexity, yet traditionally require advanced watchmaking knowledge and specialised tools to set. Following the ergonomic advancements of this year’s 41 mm Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, which enables corrections via its “all-in-one” crown, the setting box offers an additional solution that makes a traditionally technical task automatic.
Bridging horological expertise with state-of-the-art technology and artificial intelligence, the standalone device simplifies one of watchmaking's most intricate complications.
Combining mechanical engineering with robotics, computer vision and AI, the device embraces both tradition and innovation.
Upon placing the Perpetual Calendar wristwatch inside the box, the system launches a fully automated process, during which a camera captures the dial configuration and analyses which calendar indications require adjustment. The complete setting operation takes approximately five minutes.
The idea of creating a setting device for the Perpetual Calendar has been a part of Audemars Piguet’s vision for years. The innovative ‘all-in-one’ crown of Caliber 7138 has made that dream possible, which were were able to bring to life via our collaboration with the Dubai Future Foundation.

A LEGACY OF FORM LANGUAGE WITHIN A FUTURISTIC DESIGN
This revolutionary assistant introduces a new category of object in the watchmaking industry – one that extends Audemars Piguet's brand’s design language beyond the wrist. Designed in close collaboration between in-house design teams and Italian designer Max Terio, it reflects the Manufacture’s aesthetic codes and high standards of excellence, blurring the lines between technological device, artistic creation and mechanical tool.
