WHERE IT BEGAN

The Vallée de Joux in the Swiss Jura Mountains has long been our home. Known as one of the cradles of Swiss watchmaking, this remote valley nurtured a community skilled in the art of fine watchmaking.

Long winters and access to natural resource, including iron ore, running water and timber, fostered strong expertise in metalwork. Over time, artisans refined their skills in response to the growing demand for fine watches.  Working in close connection with nature and its rhythms, watchmakers developed timepieces that track not only hours, minutes and seconds, but also natural cycles such as days, months and moon-phases.

Drawing on this environment and local expertise, our founders maintained traditional techniques, focusing on hand-crafted production at a time of increasing industrialisation.

WHERE WE STAND, WHERE WE ARE HEADING

In continuity of our founders’ values, we formally embedded our commitment to contribute positively to society and the environment into our legal statutes in 2021.
Sustainability is integral to our business strategy. It guides how we create long-term value and requires continuous improvement. We report on our progress and challenges with transparency, recognising it is a lever for accountability.

Our dedication to sustainability extends beyond our operations. In 2023, our Board of Directors further reinforced this approach by dedicating 2% of the Group’s annual turnover to the Audemars Piguet Foundations.

Established in 1992, the Audemars Piguet Foundation for Trees formalised our commitment to environmental protection and community resilience worldwide. In 2023, the Audemars Piguet Foundation for Common Good broadened our impact by focusing on educational and social equity initiatives. Together, these Foundations support environmental, educational and social projects around the world. To date, they have supported more than 250 projects led by non‑profit organisations around the world, alongside over 10,000 hours of volunteering within local communities. Fully funded by our revenue, the Foundations are independent legal entities that report to the Supervisory Authorities for Foundations.

Always looking to the future, we will continue to ensure the long-term preservation of our shared skills, heritage, values and purpose, while nurturing our communities towards a sustainable future.
