Nick Faldo

Le Brassus, 26 March 2014 – Sir Nick Faldo is pleased to announce that golfers Henrik Stenson (Sweden), Victor Dubuisson (France), Kiradech Aphibarnrat (Thailand) and Peter Uihlein (USA) will join the famous Audemars Piguet golf team. This team, which is made up of exceptional golfers who dominate their discipline, epitomises the manufacture’s philosophy: "To break the rules, you must first master them".

"Passion, precision and rigour are the intrinsic values of golf, as well as watchmaking," emphasises François-Henry Bennahmias, CEO of Audemars Piguet, a golfer himself and former international champion. "We are proud to be able to team up with passionate, exceptional golfers who master their discipline and work tirelessly to constantly push their limits."

Sir Nick Faldo belongs to an elite circle of living golf legends. Former world number one and boasting six major championships, this Briton has also earned the most points in Ryder Cup history. With his impeccable swing, Sir Nick Faldo has left his mark on the history of golf and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Known for the finesse of his game, he became the manufacture's first ambassador in 1988. Royal Oak editions were produced bearing his name in 1992, 1997 and 2002. He has remained very active in the field of golf: he is a TV analyst, award-winning golf course designer and founder of the Faldo Series, an international junior circuit for which Audemars Piguet is a partner.

Henrik Stenson, who is currently ranked third in the world, has probably the most effective iron play of all golfers. Born in 1976 in Göteborg in Sweden, a man of good taste and pinpoint precision, Henrik always displays a rare sense of elegance. Nicknamed “The Iceman”, thanks to his nerves of steel, he was the undisputed Player of the Year in 2013, winning three tournaments and receiving the honour of becoming the first golfer ever to win the USA’s FedExCup and Europe’s Race to Dubai in the same year.

Born in 1990, Victor Dubuisson possesses all the necessary characteristics to make him a true musketeer of golf: style, audacity and talent. This French iconoclast turned pro four years ago and is arguably one of the most talented golfers of his generation. In late 2013, he won the Turkish Airlines Open, one of the most prestigious tournaments on the European Tour. In early 2014, he made an unforgettable impression by reaching the final of the Match Play Championship in Marana, Arizona. Experts agree that an extremely promising future lies ahead of him.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat is one of the most talented golfers on the Asian Tour.  Born in Bangkok in 1989, he displays a friendly smile in all circumstances.  After achieving great success in the Juniors, this motorsport lover stole the spotlight in 2013 with his brilliant win at the Maybank Malaysian Open along with top-five finishes on seven other occasions. He ended the 2013 season as winner of the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

Peter Uihlein has winning in his blood. Born in 1989, this young American embodies the newest generation of powerful, athletic and technical golfers. Peter turned professional in 2012 and headed to Europe, a brave decision that quickly paid off. He won his first European Tour title in 2013 – also his first as a pro - and was subsequently named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year, thus becoming the first American to win this prestigious award.

These players are joining the Audemars Piguet golf ambassadors Dream Team that includes Keegan Bradley, Bud Cauley, Darren Clarke, Miguel Angel Jiménez, Graeme McDowell, Belén Mozo, Louis Oosthuizen, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood. They will sport one of the six new Royal Oak Offshore 42 mm watches, which boast a sculptural aesthetic that is more technical than that of previous models, notably featuring black ceramic crowns and push buttons. The 22-carat gold oscillating mass is now visible through the sapphire caseback, a window into 139 years of watchmaking mastery.

Art Basel Miami

On Friday 6 December 2013, Swiss haute horology brand Audemars Piguet and leading art gallery Galerie Perrotin hosted a prestigious party to celebrate ‘Curiosity’, an ambitious new art work by French artist duo Kolkoz created especially for Art Basel in Miami Beach. The party was attended by over 1000 guests, including artists, collectors and gallerists who arrived by speedboat to the iconic modernist structure of the disused Miami Marine Stadium. Once at the Stadium, guests were able to board ‘Curiosity’, the playful snow covered chalet floating out at sea and celebrate late into the night.

‘Curiosity’, was launched on Tuesday 3 December, the eve of Art Basel in Miami Beach, by Mayor of Miami Tomás Regalado. The mysterious chalet has since become an unusual addition to the Miami skyline and has proved an interesting talking point throughout the week.  The Friday night party was the culmination of a host of special events, including a dinner on Thursday 5 December, that have taken place at the art work to mark Audemars Piguet’s first presence at Art Basel in Miami Beach.

At the opening dinner on Thursday 5 December, guests were greeted by the sight of long, candlelit white tables set up in front of ‘Curiosity’. Welcoming guests at the event,  François-Henry Bennahmias, CEO of Audemars Piguet thanked all of the stakeholders involved in the project, expressing how delighted Audemars Piguet are to be involved in the initiative to historically restore the Miami Marine Stadium back to its former glory.  Magnus Renfrew, Art Basel’s Director Asia also spoke at the event, celebrating Audemars Piguet’s global partnership with Art Basel, and expressing delight at Kolkoz’s new work. The Miami Marine Stadium architect Hilario Candela finished the speeches with a special presentation of four chairs from the Friends of the Miami Marine Stadium which were given as a thank you to François-Henry Bennahmias, CEO of Audemars Piguet for its involvement and support in one of the first steps of this restoration project. It is hoped that ‘Curiosity’ by Kolkoz will be the first step in the path towards the rebirth of the Miami Marine Stadium.

‘Curiosity’ is now open to the public throughout the weekend (7 and 8 December 2013) so visitors can explore the art work and come face to face with the impressive Miami Marine Stadium.

Until 8 December 2013, Audemars Piguet will welcome guests to its dedicated space in the Collectors’ Lounge at Art Basel in Miami Beach where it is showcasing Dan Holdsworth’s photographs of the Vallée de Joux alongside a presentation centred on Audemars Piguet’s iconic stainless steel ‘Royal Oak’ model. Visitors can view a historic display about this and other classic pieces from the brand’s 138-year history, as well as a watchmaker’s bench with the famous guillochage machine. Guided tours by watch specialists complement the experience.

Pursuing its commitment to creativity and innovation, Audemars Piguet has initiated a long-term partnership as a global Associate Partner and looks forward to exploring further artist collaborations at future Art Basel shows.
