Above and beyond the great man who was brilliant, cultured and a true gentleman, the traits of character that we will most clearly remember are the generosity, the creativity and the passion for horological tradition of this colourful figure. His visionary mind gave rise to numerous watchmaking legends, and he made an unequalled contribution to the field of Haute Horlogerie.
It was in the 1970s that he founded the brand bearing his name and opened an atelier in Geneva. From then on, he produced a steady stream of creations, occasionally shocking the industry by daring to associate unprecedented shapes and materials with complex mechanisms. Driven by an authentically artistic approach, he soon gained the respect of the entire profession and of fine watchmaking enthusiasts.
Audemars Piguet extends its sincere condolences to his family and wishes to express its sincere admiration and eternal gratitude to this exceptional man. In his company, the Manufacture from Le Brassus wrote the first wonderful and exciting chapters in an exceptional adventure. The Royal Oak 40th anniversary celebrations are bound to feature a heartfelt tribute to this creative genius, who retained to the last the soul of a passionately dedicated artist.
