The Swiss watch manufacturer Audemars Piguet presented the winner for the creation of a work of art award organised in light of the ARCOmadrid Art exhibition taking place from February 13th to 17th 2013. The winner’s, Juan Luis Moraza, sculpture creation, is displayed at Audemars Piguet’s VIP Lounge throughout the fair.
The panel of five judges chaired by Carlos Urroz, Director of ARCOmadrid and including Octavio García, Artistic Director of Audemars Piguet, (represented by Antonio Seward, CEO Audemars Piguet Iberia), chose the sculpture “Arules” for its mastery, precision, quality as well as what it evokes to the public also trademark qualities conveyed by Audemars Piguet through its timepieces . The sculpture perfectly encapsulates the brand’s philosophy, “To break the rules, you must first master them”.
With a desire to strengthen their support for contemporary art on the international stage, Audemars Piguet reached an agreement in 2012 to sponsor ARCOmadrid, which has been renewed for the 2013 event, including a competition that awards a prize for the creation of a work of art: “AUDEMARS PIGUET PRIZE FOR THE CREATION OF A WORK OF ART”. The company will also sponsor the 2013 editions of ART BASEL fairs in Hong Kong, Basel and Miami Beach.
