Audemars Piguet ambassador Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsmen to score one hundred hundreds at international level. He scored his 100th century on Friday March 16, 2012 in a One-Day International between India and Bangladesh in Dhaka. It is unlikely that anyone else will ever be able to match this amazing achievement. Sachin has defied age and injury at every stage of his career spanning more than 22 years.
A whole nation had been waiting to celebrate this exceptional milestone by the Indian cricket icon, as Sachin was left stranded on 99 international hundreds for a year and four days, since a match against South Africa at the 2011 World Cup that Sachin conquered a few weeks later. This 100th century was Sachin's 49th in One-Day International, as he has 51 Test centuries. His nearest challenger on the all-time list is Australia’s Ricky Ponting who has 29 less centuries.
Sachin Tendulkar is the most successful cricketer in history, with over 15’000 runs to his name in Test matches and 18’000 in One-Day Internationals. In February 2010, Sachin reached another milestone by becoming the first in world cricket to score a double-hundred in one-day internationals.
Audemars Piguet congratulates its ambassador Sachin Tendulkar whose passion for the game not only keeps him going, but also gives him the opportunity to reinvent himself and raise the bar for himself. Sachin is a particularly keen devotee of haute horlogerie and proudly wears Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore watches. Sachin perfectly embodies the Audemars Piguet brand philosophy “to break the rules, you must first master them”.
